Founded in 1932, the NAUMD is the association for the uniform and image apparel industry. The membership is composed of the entire uniform supply chain: distributors, manufacturers, fabric mills & associated suppliers. This association is a community for the uniform and image apparel industry. It is composed of manufacturers, distributors and associated companies that have a common bond in the future of our industry.
The purpose is to connect ideas and people in ways that provoke conversations and inspire innovation. The NAUMD is about building a community where strategic relationships are formed, problems are solved and meaningful information empowers a better future. On the Executive Committee for Naumd Leadership Team is our President, Phil Newman and on the Membership committee is Vice President, Jon Edberg.
Once again this year, Cobmex had the pleasure of attending the award night in St Louis and our President, Phil Newman, was given the honor of presenting Vice President, Jon Edberg the ‘Next Generation Young Leardership Award’. This award represents the future of the industry and will set new standards for the support and growth of the industry, as well as the NAUMD brand. By developing and recognizing future leaders, it is laying the foundation for the industry to continue to innovate, grow and inspire future generations of NAUMD members. The core criteria for this nomination is; career progress, industry involvement, leadership development, and innovation. A special and humbling moment when Phil said a few words and was able to grant the award to Jon. As Cobmex is continously growing, this award represents recognition of the hard work in which employees demonstrate in our industry.
Jon joined Cobmex in 2004 only a few months after his 20th birthday. After working 6 months in the distribution center it was clear that Jon had a remarkable passion for the uniform industry. His ability to recognize opportunity, combined with this passion allowed Jon to gain product development and sales skills that enabled him to fill many roles over the years as the company evolved. In 2014 Jon was appointed as the Vice President of Sales and today is Vice President of Sales and Merchandising. His efforts enabled Cobmex to grow from a small sweater manufacturer supplying security sweaters to one of the Uniform Industry’s leading knitwear suppliers servicing the Public Safety and Corporate Image Apparel Industries. This award is truly a reflection of the respect for his talent and the enthusiasm he projects in all he does.
Other winners of the award night whom deserve a congratulatory mention would be Unisync for Air Canada, Aramark for Mercedes Benz and Twin Hill & Way to Be for McDonald’s. These companies were all honoured with the ‘Image of the Year’ award in each of their respective categories with the Best of the Best going to Unisync for their program with Air Canada (a NAUMD 1st for a Canadian company). Each year, the Image Apparel Institute recognizes the best workplace apparel programs with its Image of the Year Awards. Since 1978, the IOY Awards have recognized the organization’s program, plus the manufacturers and distributors that created it. Independent judges evaluate the programs on it’s originality of design, projection of branding, functionality for the job and lastly, the use of technology and innovation.
Once again, Congratulations to all the winners!
