At COBMEX®, we believe in the power of innovation and sustainability to shape the future of the uniform industry. That’s why we are thrilled to announce the launch of two new scholarships for design students at George Brown College, aligning with our commitment to foster the next generation of creative minds.
We are proud to introduce the COBMEX® Innovation in Uniform Design Scholarship and the COBMEX® Sustainability in Uniform Apparel Scholarship. These scholarships are designed to support students who are passionate about advancing uniform design through innovative and sustainable practices.
Jon Edberg, Executive Vice President at COBMEX®, emphasized the company’s commitment to promoting creativity and sustainability:
“By investing in the education of young designers, we are not only supporting their dreams but also ensuring the continued evolution and improvement of our industry.”
Ana Rita Morais, Interim Dean, Centre for Arts, Design, & Information Technology at George Brown College, expressed the significance of this partnership, stating,
“We are proud to collaborate with COBMEX® to offer two new scholarships, which align with our mission to equip our students with the skills and knowledge to drive positive change in the fashion industry. These scholarships will empower our students to pursue their passions in innovation and sustainability while making a lasting impact on the world.”
The scholarship announcement is timed to celebrate the inaugural National Uniform Day on September 18th. National Uniform Day, an initiative by the Network Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors (NAUMD), honors the millions of hardworking individuals who wear uniforms with pride every day. This day serves as a reminder of the critical role uniforms play in various industries, organizations, and communities. By launching our scholarships on this day, we aim to highlight the significance of sustainability and innovation in uniform design.
The importance of these scholarships extends beyond financial support. As Rick Levine, Executive Director of NAUMD, notes,
“This initiative not only nurtures the talents of the next generation but also fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of the uniform and workwear industry. By empowering students to innovate and embrace sustainability, we are investing in the future leaders who will drive our industry forward.”
Pricila Neal, Senior Director of Design and Product at COBMEX®, expressed her personal connection to the initiative:
“As a former student of George Brown, I know how crucial it is to nurture and inspire the next generation of designers, giving them the tools and opportunities they need to innovate and succeed.”
The application period for the scholarships opened on August 20, 2024, and will close on September 30, 2024. Students enrolled in the School of Fashion and Jewellery at George Brown College are encouraged to apply by submitting a 300–500-word essay. The Innovation in Uniform Design Scholarship will be awarded to a student proposing creative uniform design approaches, while the Sustainability in Uniform Apparel Scholarship will go to a student presenting novel solutions for promoting sustainability in the uniform industry.
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in the spring of 2025, where COBMEX® executives will have the honor of presenting the scholarships. This initiative not only supports students financially but also offers them a platform to showcase their ideas and connect with industry leaders.
Join us in celebrating National Uniform Day and our commitment to nurturing future innovators. Let’s work together to shape a more sustainable and innovative future for the uniform industry. More news to follow on the recipients, and their achievements and aspirations.
